Southwest Speed Festival Coming to Podium Club Sept. 21

The Podium Club at Attesa is proud to announce the upcoming Southwest Speed Festival, a new one-day race car extravaganza, featuring all-out time trials competition sanctioned by Global Time Attack.

On Saturday, September 21, some of the sports' fastest and most powerful time attack cars will show their amazing speed and brute performance, offering a sensory overload experience for everyone in attendance. Plus there will be live music, food and beverage, a drifting exhibition, car show, a vendor display, prize raffles, and a limited number of ride-alongs.  On Sunday, there will be a final round of track attack racing that is free to the public.

Global Time Attack is an organization founded to assemble the world’s fastest, dedicated time trials cars gathering together on a particular circuit.  Gridlife and the SCCA also run time attack events, but GTA is the largest body, boasting aggressive, purpose-built machinery with over 1,100 bhp.

“This will be our first GTA event and we’re excited about how much interest we’re seeing,” said co-promotor Ravi Tomerlin of We Don’t Lift Racing.  “Our Saturday afternoon drifting event is sold out, and we’re expecting a full field of GTA racers from all over to come out and show off their skills.”

Time attacks are a competition, but not a race. In racing, drivers fight for position to be the first to cross the checker after a specific number of laps or elapsed time. With Time Attack, the driver is trying to get a fast single-lap or run on the course, and drivers are expected to give each other the most room possible so that everyone has the best chance for their best lap.

Global Time Attack rules allow for six different classes, including Enthusiast, Street, Limited, and Unlimited.  Max Effort, and GT-X divisions for professional teams, or racing vehicles that do not confine to the primary 4 classes ruleset.  Records are also kept for rear-wheel, front-wheel, and all-wheel drive.

“We’ve had some really fast cars here at the Podium Club,” said Dan Erickson, Managing Partner.  “But never such an enormous collection, and we’ve never hosted a drifting show.  This event will be our biggest since we opened in 2021, and we look forward to showing our fans an exciting time.”

The track anticipates over 1000 spectators on Saturday.  Admission is $30 per person for Saturday, kids under 12 are free, gates open at 3 p.m. and parking is free.  You can pre-purchase tickets for a discounted price through the website, www.southwestspeedfestival.com.  Gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday and admission is free.

The Podium Club features a 2.32-mile road racing circuit designed to meet the highest safety standards set by the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) and the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) sanctioning bodies at buildout.  It is the keystone project at Attesa, a 2350-acre master-planned, multi-use real estate development in Pinal County, just under an hour from both Phoenix and Tucson.

The Podium Club is located at 6870 S. Bianco Road, Casa Grande, AZ 85193. For more information, please visit podiumclub.com, or call 602-702-7222. To contact the track, call 480-702-1074.
